Hey AI enthusiasts!
Google just launched a new AI, and has already admitted at least one demo wasn’t real - Let’s dive in!
In today’s AI world:
A hard-hitting feature from Forbes has thrust one investing platform into the spotlight. They call it “compelling” for investors looking to diversify and seek higher gains. That platform? Masterworks.
Using AI and decades of industry experience, Masterworks unlocks an exclusive, low-volatility asset; blue-chip art. BofA backs them up – art auction volumes have stayed strong despite interest rates rising.
Translation: the art market isn’t feeling the same pressure that’s cracked stocks and bonds.
Even better, Masterworks handles all the work for you. They buy the piece, sell it, and return the net proceeds.
With $45,000,000+ in art sold, their database gives them an unrivaled edge at selecting new pieces to offer their 810,000+ active members.
Now for a limited time, Masterworks is waiving the $15,000 minimum when 150 readers sign up using this link.
Google just announced Gemini, its most powerful suite of AI models yet, and the company has already been accused of lying about its performance.
Why this matters:
Google has a history of questionable video demos, such as the Duplex demo. This raised concerns about edited videos and potential misinformation. The Bloomberg op-ed suggests that Google should focus on letting journalists and developers experience Gemini firsthand through public beta testing to showcase its actual capabilities.
Seattle Hub for Synthetic Biology will be funded with $75 million to research “DNA typewriters, self-monitoring cells that could upend our understanding of biology". The Allen Institute (Paul Allen) and Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative (Mark Zuckerberg) have collaborated on this.
Replicate, a Silicon Valley-based platform to access and tinker with more than 25,000 open-source AI models, raised $40 million in Series B funding in a round led by Andreessen Horowitz ($350 million valuation).
Sarvam AI, an India-based, 5-month-old startup has come out of stealth mode and raised $41 million in Series A funding from Lightspeed. Sarvam AI races to build a suite of full-stack generative AI offerings.
Leonardo.ai, a Sydney, Australia-based AI art production platform for consumers and enterprise users raised $31 million in Series A funding from Blackbird, Side Stage Ventures, Smash Capital, and more.
Meta just revealed over 20 new AI-powered features in progress, spanning search, messaging, ads, and more. A summary of the most notable rollouts:
Meta launches a standalone image generator, called 'Imagine with Meta'. It is very similar to DALL-E, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion. 'Imagine with Meta' is powered by Meta’s existing Emu image generation model. It’s free to use (at least for now) for users in the U.S. and generates four images per prompt.
Meta also launched a feature called 'reimagine'. This allows users in group chats to have more fun by recreating AI images with prompts. To use reimagine in a group chat, a user would first generate an AI image with a prompt using '@Meta AI'.
Another new addition is support for Reels in Meta AI chat. This could be helpful when you want to see visual examples of things that match your query. For example, if you were planning a trip with friends in a group chat, you could ask Meta AI to recommend the best places to visit and share Reels of those top sites and attractions, the company explains.
Earlier this year, Meta introduced a set of AI characters, including those based on real-life celebs including the likes of MrBeast, Tom Brady, Snoop Dog, and others. Today, the company announced that 28 AI characters are fully rolled out across the U.S. for people to chat with across WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram.
Meta is currently experimenting with many more products and features.
