🎥 OpenAI Launches Text-To-Video Model Sora

video preview

OpenAI just launched its text-to-video model called 'Sora'. Sora is an AI model that can create realistic and imaginative scenes from text instructions.

The video shows the following prompt: "A stylish woman walks down a Tokyo street filled with warm glowing neon and animated city signage. She wears a black leather jacket, a long red dress, and black boots, and carries a black purse. She wears sunglasses and red lipstick. She walks confidently and casually. The street is damp and reflective, creating a mirror effect of the colorful lights. Many pedestrians walk about"

The model uses a diffusion process and a transformer architecture, enabling it to create videos from scratch, extend existing videos, or animate still images with high fidelity to the prompt. OpenAI aims to refine Sora through feedback from creative professionals

Our take: OpenAI is coming for your startup. If you don’t have an integrative strategy to make your company 10x better/faster/cheaper than whatever OpenAI releases, you face the upending of your entire business. Sora, just by being announced, has filled in the moats around Runway and Pika.

💰 AI Took Over the Super Bowl

video preview

The majority of Americans feel more concerned than excited about AI. Microsoft, Google, and Anthropic are hoping good, old-fashioned marketing tactics can change hearts and minds.

The details:

  • Microsoft showed off its AI helper
  • A Google Pixel ad showed a new AI feature that helps people who have trouble seeing take better photos
  • Illumination made fun of AI videos while talking about the new ‘Despicable Me 4’ movie with Minions making funny mistakes
  • An ad from HeGetsUs with people washing feet got a lot of negative attention. Some thought the pictures were made by AI, but they were real
  • BodyArmor made fun of bad AI videos in their ‘Field of Fake’ ad and said they use real sweeteners, not fake ones.
  • Etsy’s ad showed a tool that uses AI to suggest gift ideas to help shoppers find the perfect present

Our Take: There have been a lot of ads about AI recently, but seeing them during the Super Bowl is a big deal because so many people watch it. The different kinds of AI ads show that people and companies have mixed feelings about AI technology - some are excited, some are worried, and others are still deciding what to think.
